Compagnia dei Trustee is an independent trust company based in Turin. We act as trustee, co-trustee and protector of trusts settled in Italy and abroad, for families, businesses and vulnerable people.
Italy has no domestic trust law, but recognises trusts governed by foreign law under the Hague Convention of 1 July 1985, ratified by Law no. 364 of 16 October 1989. A professional trustee resident in Italy can administer such trusts, take over from an outgoing trustee, or act alongside a foreign trustee.
What we do
- Trustee and co-trustee of trusts governed by Italian-recognised foreign laws, including trusts with assets or beneficiaries in Italy.
- Replacement of trustees: orderly takeover when a trustee resigns, is removed or can no longer act.
- Relocation of the administration of foreign trusts to a trustee resident in Italy, coordinated with the family's advisers.
- Protector, or co-protector, overseeing the trustee within the powers granted by the trust deed.
- "Dopo di Noi" trusts for persons with severe disabilities under Italian Law no. 112/2016.
- Business succession: trusts holding family company shares across generations.
Why an Italian resident trustee
Where the settlor, the beneficiaries or the assets have moved to Italy, a local trustee simplifies relations with Italian banks, notaries and tax authorities. Moving the administration of a trust may change its tax residence: this should be assessed in advance with the family's tax advisers.
